OpenAI

Figma, Spotify, Expedia… All Inside ChatGPT? ChatGPT is becoming the New Internet.

With new features and platforms launching almost every week, it’s getting harder to keep up.

And just yesterday, OpenAI kicked off DevDay 2025. But this time, one thing really stood out to me was OpenAI’s new integrations with external apps. Figma, Spotify, Expedia, Booking.com, Zillow, Canva… They’re the tools I already rely on daily; to design, listen, plan trips, or find housing!

And now, they’re just one click away inside ChatGPT. No more API credentials, no MCP setup, no developer configuration. Simply App connect and it’s done.

That simple experience got me thinking about a few key points that would be interesting to discuss.

1. ChatGPT is building an ecosystem, not just a product.

What started as a 1:1 chat between humans and AI is now evolving into a connected platform where other tools can plug in.

This move isn’t just about convenience but ecosystem thinking. ChatGPT is showing how a single interface can become a gateway to multiple services, simplifying the complexity of backend systems while keeping the user experience intuitive and conversational.

2. Privacy and security are becoming more critical than ever.

There’s always a trade-off between seamless integration and data transparency. We’ve already seen this with Google’s Single Sign-On (SSO), where our data quietly moves across platforms we barely remember authorizing.

ChatGPT’s app integrations raise similar questions. When we connect an external tool, what exactly is being shared, and to which extent? It’s now more important than ever for platforms to communicate data flows clearly and respectfully.

With one click, two apps are simply connected.

3. User experience now begins inside ChatGPT.

Traditionally, onboarding happens within an app’s own ecosystem, but now, that journey can start before the user even visits the product.

Imagine exploring Spotify playlists, designing in Figma, or booking trips on Expedia but all within ChatGPT’s conversational interface. The first impression of those services might no longer come from their websites or mobile apps, but from how they’re represented inside ChatGPT. This would create a huge shift in experience touch points.

4. GEO (Generative Entry Optimization) is real, and new metrics will emerge.

SEO or App Store optimization defined how we should attract new users. Now, GEO (Generative Entry Optimization) could become the next frontier.

Since users can now discover and interact with third-party tools through ChatGPT, metrics like app downloads or web traffic may lose their dominance. Instead, we’ll start tracking in-chat engagement/frequency, and AI-mediated retention which will bring upon a whole new layer of performance analytics.

Yet ambiguous and uncertain, this path excites me. I hope to contribute to shaping a future where technology truly empowers people and drives positive change in society.
